AudioNet-Gda & AMuz Gdańsk Collaboration
Dante AoIP networked music performance system and ongoing artistic-scientific partnership with the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.
Institutional partnership. On 19 March 2025, the rectors of Gdańsk University of Technology and the Academy of Music in Gdańsk (Akademia Muzyczna im. Stanisława Moniuszki) signed a letter of intent formalising cooperation in education, student projects, joint elective courses, and artistic-scientific activities including audio recordings. Coverage: Gdańsk Tech news, AMuz news.
AudioNet-Gda. The technical centrepiece of this collaboration is AudioNet-Gda – a networked music performance (NMP) infrastructure connecting the Department of Multimedia Systems at Gdańsk University of Technology with the Academy of Music in Gdańsk via the TASK academic network, using Dante Audio-over-IP. The system enables real-time audio transmission between the two campuses with systematic measurement of network latency and its effect on musical synchronisation across different ensemble configurations. Currently under active development by A. Sałata and R. Dobrański (M.Sc.Eng thesis, 2026) under my supervision.
Student recording projects. Beyond the technical infrastructure, the collaboration includes a regular programme of student recording sessions at AMuz – capturing ensemble and choir performances for research and educational purposes. These sessions provide material for studies in spatial audio recording methodology and serve as field training for students in Recording Technology courses. A subset of recordings made with AMuz performers has been contributed to the HOA Recording Corpus.
Recording sessions. The collaboration has produced two joint recording sessions to date:
- March 2025 – Recording session at AMuz Gdańsk. KSMM students O. Górecki, B. Bonarowski, and R. Kulesza recorded AMuz vocalist I. Zielińska and guitarist M. Rajca in an ensemble setting.
- March 2026 – Recording session at the KSMM Recording Studio, Gdańsk Tech. A trumpet-and-piano performance by AMuz musicians was recorded by the KSMM team: J. Tarczewski, M. Bernat, and P. Szydłowski, marking the first session hosted at the PG side of the collaboration.
The collaboration represents a sustained effort to connect engineering and music education in the Tricity region, with AMuz providing artistic content and performance expertise, and the Department of Multimedia Systems contributing spatial audio technology and research methodology.
